San Antonio eye shop

Our San Antonio eye shop offers full service, with an array of optical goods and accessories available, from eyeglasses to contact lenses, including special lenses and cleaning products and maintenance items. Here at the office of Dr. Dawn Rakich, O.D., our priority is making sure that you have everything you need to improve your vision and protect your eyes.

A pair of eyeglasses, of course, consists of the lenses to improve your vision, and the frames to go around them. In addition to holding your corrective prescription, the lenses you get from our San Antonio eye shop can be had with a variety of benefits, including the resistance to scratches and breakage of polycarbonate, polarized and photochromic as well as mirrored coatings, tinted lenses, and high index, which allows us to put your strong prescription in a thin frame by reducing the thickness of the lens required. That’s a sampling, but we have more. Our San Antonio eye shop will place those lenses inside designer brand frames from names like Tom Ford, Gucci, Silhouette, Costa, Nike, and Jones New York, among others. If you prefer contact lenses, well you can browse through varieties in both soft and hard (also called rigid or gas-permeable). That’s not all, though. We offer contacts to correct astigmatism, keratoconus, and for treating dry eyes, as well as to address color blindness, which may not seem like a big problem, but can be make or break in many careers including law enforcement, airline pilot, and firefighter. We are also proud to represent ChromaGen Lenses, the patented and FDA-cleared technology for addressing reading problems and dyslexia. And if you don’t see something listed above, just ask. We probably have it or can get it.

For an eye exam, please call us San Antonio eye shop to schedule one first. We will then help you to determine the right optical products for your needs and your preferences.

Finding the right eyeglasses for your face shape in San Antonio

San Antonio eyeglasses

San Antonio eyeglasses

When you get a pair of our San Antonio eyeglasses, of course your top priority is to improve your vision. That much is a given. But thanks to the outstanding selection of designer frames we are pleased to offer here at the office of Dr. Dawn Rakich, O.D., you can be sure that you will also look fantastic. Your personal taste is the overriding factor in making your choice, but it is also important to consider your face shape. Complimenting it with the right frames will enhance your appearance to the highest degree possible.

We start by making sure that we carry the finest names in designer eyewear. Just a few of the trusted and envied brands that you can choose from with our San Antonio eyeglasses are Modo, Tory Burch, Chesterfield, Nike Vision, Gucci, and Tom Ford. We have others. And among them are a variety of sizes, colors, and shapes. Selecting a shape that is right for your face is key to how great they are going to look when you put them on. Fortunately, we are experts at this, and will assist you in finding the perfect ones to suit your needs and preferences. Everyone’s face can be described as being part of one out of six basic types: square, oval, oblong, round, diamond, and heart. Don’t be fooled into trying to necessarily match the same shape of glasses to the shape of your face. Square frames, for example, do not look good on a square face. You’ll be able to make your decision and when it comes down to it, you will find that by getting the right shape in our San Antonio eyeglasses, you will be much happier with them both now, and in the long run.

Schedule an appointment for an eye exam to begin the process of getting our San Antonio eyeglasses. Contact us today and we will book you.

If you are thinking about having some type of refractive surgery to improve your vision, you should visit our vision practice, Dr. Dawn Rakich, O.D. Our optometrist, Dr. Dawn Rakich, will be able to co-manage your refractive surgery both before and after it is performed by your San Antonio eye surgeon.

Dr. Rakich herself is very familiar with refractive surgery. She underwent LASIK surgery for vision correction and knows firsthand all about its benefits. Today, due to great advances in techniques and technology used to perform refractive surgery, these treatments are now very popular and safe for our patients. Our optometrist is very pleased to be able to co-manage all current refractive surgeries to help ensure that you are a good candidate for the procedure, and to make sure that you enjoy a complete and easy recovery. Among the different types of refractive surgeries that our optometrist manages are: LASIK; PRK; Intacs; Crystalens; CK; and VISIAN Implantable Contact Lenses. In order to benefit from these surgeries, it is important that you are first prequalified for the surgery before your San Antonio eye surgeon proceeds. This is because if you are not a good candidate for the surgery for some reason, the eye surgery may not be successful. With LASIK surgery, a poor candidate may even find that his or her eyesight has worsened due to the procedure. This is why it is so important that you are determined to be a qualified patient before any type of refractive surgery is performed. Our optometrist will be able to give you a thorough exam, and knows exactly how to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for your refractive procedure.

Our optometrist will be happy to work with you and your San Antonio eye surgeon to make sure that your refractive surgery is completely successful, and provides you with the results you are looking for.

LASIK in San Antonio

San Antonio eye surgery

San Antonio eye surgery

With LASIK, you get a way to improve your eyesight significantly and regain a level of visual clarity that had been denied to you because of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. There are many advantages to getting this San Antonio eye surgery, and Dr. Rakich would like to help you determine if you are a good candidate for it. We’re pleased to offer co-management services, so that you can take the time to ask any questions you have, and know exactly what to expect before, during, and after your procedure.

How does LASIK work? Most vision problems are the result of the way in which light enters your eyes. If your vision is considered normal, this means that light passes through your cornea (the clear part of your eye at the front) and strikes your retina at the center, as it is intended to do. When the curvature of the cornea is off, however, light will instead strike more toward the front or the back of your eye. This leads to difficulty seeing clearly up close, far away, or at all distances (such as with astigmatism). Eyeglasses and contact lenses work by correcting the angle at which the light hits your retina, giving you sharper eyesight. With LASIK, your cornea is reshaped surgically, meaning you get a permanent solution to your vision needs. LASIK has a very high success rate, typically around 90%. Will it eliminate your need for prescription lenses entirely? In some cases, yes it will. In others, you will have to rely on your eyeglasses or contacts far less than you used to.

To qualify for this procedure, you need to be at least 18 years old, have no past or present corneal disease, and can be neither pregnant nor nursing. Other reasons that could prevent you from being a good candidate for LASIK are having eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, or keratoconus. You should be in basically good health before undergoing the San Antonio eye surgery. As part of our co-management services, Dr. Rakich will determine if your vision has been stable over the previous 12 months and that your current prescription lenses are within acceptable limits. Call us today and schedule an appointment. Better and longer-lasting vision starts right now.

Glaucoma is actually not just one condition, but a group of conditions related by an increased, damaging pressure on the optic nerve. These kinds of scenarios can be avoided as long as you visit Dr. Dawn Rakich on a regular basis for comprehensive eye exams including glaucoma screenings. Keeping up with these exams is especially important if you are at an increased risk of developing glaucoma, such as if you are over the age of sixty years old and/or if you have a family history of glaucoma. Glaucoma Testing 78213

San Antonio Glaucoma Eye Care

Glaucoma Testing 78213

Glaucoma Testing 78213

It is very important to obtain the services of a highly-experienced optometrist, if you want to maintain your excellent eye health. Depending upon your age and overall medical health, it is recommended that you have a comprehensive eye exam about every one to two years. Dr. Dawn Rakich, O.D. performs glaucoma testing 78213 as part of every comprehensive eye exam. Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness and vision loss in the United States so it is important to be sure that you are screened for this sight-stealing disease.

Dr. Rakich is a glaucoma specialist, who is expert in both diagnosing and treating glaucoma. In order to diagnose glaucoma, Dr. Rakich will look at your eyes after your pupils have been dilated with special medical drops. Our doctor will closely examine the optic nerve which will change in appearance as the disease progresses. Our doctor will also perform a tonometry that will check for eye pressure. If glaucoma is suspected, a visual field test will also be performed to see if there is any loss of side vision. Glaucoma testing 78213 is totally painless, so you do not need to be apprehensive about the procedures.

Once glaucoma is diagnosed, Dr. Rakich can help with treatment and management of the eye disease. Glaucoma treatment can include prescription eye drops or laser surgery. Eye drops can reduce the amount of fluid in the front of the eye, or increase the amount of the fluid that leaves the front of the eye. In either event, the result will be that eye pressure will be reduced. This is key for the management of glaucoma. If eye drops do not sufficiently stop the progression of the disease, Dr. Rakich will recommend that you see an ophthalmologist who will be able to perform laser surgery on the eye. This surgery will further help reduce the amount of fluid at the front of the eye. It is important that glaucoma is diagnosed early, as vision lost to glaucoma cannot be restored. Also, when glaucoma is in its early stages, it is not really noticed by the person whose vision is being adversely affected. So if you need glaucoma testing 78213, contact our office for an appointment with Dr. Dawn Rakich.
